We are developing a dynamic online training platform designed to extend the reach of Voicing the Void’s Restorative Storytelling approach beyond physical spaces and into organisations, communities and homes across Northern Ireland and beyond.
Rooted in resilience, trauma-informed practice, and Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), our online training will offer accessible, reflective and practical learning shaped directly by lived experience.
At the heart of every course are the voices of individuals who have endured profound challenges — and who have chosen to transform those experiences into insight, leadership and change. We believe learning is most powerful when it is relational, human and grounded in real stories.
One of the foundations of our online platform is In Our Shoes – Bridging Policing and Communities, developed in response to rising racial tensions and delivered to frontline officers within the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
Created with people who have been directly impacted by hate crime, this training brings lived experience into professional spaces — giving participants the opportunity to speak openly with officers about their journeys, the harm they experienced, and how they could have been better supported.
Through these powerful conversations, seldom-heard voices are amplified, helping to challenge perceptions, strengthen empathy, and improve service delivery by fostering deeper understanding between communities and policing.
This approach ensures learning is grounded in real experiences — supporting more compassionate responses to hate crime and helping to rebuild trust between communities and services.
“This initiative helps challenge perceptions, broaden perspectives, and create a more empathetic policing approach… The inspirational people who used their own lived experience helped us to broaden our perspectives and provide a better service to others.”
— Superintendent Finola Dornan
What began as a South Belfast initiative now holds potential for wider organisational rollout and digital expansion.
Each course will combine video learning, reflective exercises, practical tools, and real-life stories — designed to deepen understanding while maintaining care, dignity and respect.
This is not tick-box compliance training.
It is restorative, reflective and relational learning.
We are currently building and expanding our online training offer, with new courses launching soon.
